Adding a 'Real Music' ringtone
Previous Topic  Next Topic

Getting Started

From the initial screen click the 'Add a 'Real Music' ringtone' button.

The Wizard will then bring up a file window so you can locate and select the real music file you would like to add to your phone.

This file can be in a number of formats such as wave, MP3, Ogg Vorbis etc.

When you have selected a music file,  the Polyphonic Wizard will load it into the Real Music editor.

The Real Music Editior

After selecting a file,  a screen similar to this will be shown:

On this screen you have a number of options.  The first thing to do is to trim the real music down to a clip under 30 seconds long.

You do not need more than 30 seconds for most ringtone applications,  and the longer the ringtone,  the larger the output file will be,  and therefore the longer it will take to transfer to your phone,  using up more of any inclusive wap allowance you have with your network provider.

It is therefore best to trim as much as possible from your music file.

Use the tools on the toolbar to trim the file down,  you can select any part of the music by clicking and dragging your mouse,  then delete it using the delete icon on the toolbar.  Selecting the crop icon while you have a selection will leave you with just that selection.

If you make a select and click the play icon in the bottom right,  the editor will just play the section you have highlighted.

Using Effects

The Real Music editor also allows you to add effects to the music file.

Simply select the 'Effects' menu to view the current effects.

A useful effect in the amplify option,  as it will create a louder ringtone.  The fade in and fade out are also useful.   All effects will be applied to the current selection,  so if you want to make just part of the file louder,  or fade in or out,  just select that part first.

Recording your own file

If you have a mic on your PC,  you can click the record button to record your own Real Music file.    The default setting is 5 seconds,  but you can change this by entering a different value into the box at the base of the window.

Moving on

Once you have your new Real Music ringtone,  you need to transfer the file to your phone.

Click the 'Continue to next step' button and the Wizard will ask you to obtain a connection to the internet and then click continue.

You need to ensure at this point that you pc is connected directly to the internet.  Normal modem, adsl, cable connections etc are classed as direct connections,  the exceptions are proxy servers or routers which are in-direct.

Under normal usage,  you do not need to disable your firewall software such as Norton or Zonealarm.

If you have an internet accelerator software package running it is a good idea to disable it as these can interfere with the ringtone transfer.

Once you have a connection,  click the continue button and the Polyphonic Wizard will check the connection is direct,  then tell you a web address to type into your phone.

The web address will look like http://123.456.789.000 (this is just an example - use the address given by the Polyphonic Wizard).

Now,  on your phone locate the WAP browser,  or Internet browser and use the goto url,  or bookmark feature to enter,  and goto the url given to you by the Wizard.

Once your phone has connected,  and started to download the ringtone the Wizard will display a final 'finished' screen.

Wait until your phone completes the transfer before moving from this screen,  and enjoy your new ringtone!

As WAP connections are quite slow,  allow a couple of seconds per 1kb of file size for the transfer,  for example a 10kb file could take up to 20 seconds to transfer - be patient.

If you want to transfer the file to your phone without using WAP,  perhaps your phone comes with software that allows direct transfers via cable or infra red,  just use the save as button to save your current ringtone.
