Quick Setup Wizard
Previous Topic  Next Topic

The Quick Setup Wizard is new to version 4 of the Polyphonic Wizard,  and helps you determine the best way to transfer ringtones and pictures to your phone using your PC,  and current internet connection.

The setup wizard will show the first time you start the Polyphonic Wizard,  and can be accessed again later using the option on the menu bar.

We recommend you use the setup wizard when you first install the Polyphonic Wizard,  and do not skip this step,  as it takes just a few minutes.   No personal data of any kind is sent to the test server.

The first screen you will see should look something like this.  You can read this page,  and then simply click the 'Start Quick Setup Now' button to start the setup tests.

You will then see the following screen:

In an ideal world,  your PC will report that you can use both the Direct and the Intermediate WAP server like the screen shown above,  but you may find different results depending on your configuration.  For example,  if you have a firewall you may only be able to use the Intermediate server.

You may also find your firewall asks you at this point if you want to allow the Polyphonic Wizard access to the net.  Obviously you need to reply yes,  or unblock or the software will not be able to transfer ringtones to your phone.

Make a mental note of which servers you can use,  you will be asked when you want to transfer a file later to choose which option you would like to use.

If you find the Direct WAP server is not available,  you may have a network router and be able to configure it so port 80 is forwarded to your PC,  of you can just use the Intermediate Wap server!

Once you have your PC side of things covered,  you can click the continue button to test your phone.

You will get a screen like this one.  Simply follow the steps on the screen,  then read the response sent to your phone.  This will show if your phone will work at all (most do),  and if you can use Polyphonic MIDI ringtones,  or Real Music ringtones (or if you are lucky both!),  and also if your phone will accept pictures and Java midlets.

Click Finished,  and the main Polyphonic Wizard start screen will be shown,   you are then ready to use the software.
